A distinguished history
Hartshorne & Curley Insurance, Inc. has a long tradition of providing local insurance expertise and service to our neighbors. The Chas. F. Hartshorne & Son, Inc. Insurance Agency dates back to 1870, the first insurance agency to operate in Wakefield. In its infancy, the agency worked with two insurance companies (including the Franklin Fire Insurance Company founded by Benjamin Franklin), specializing only in fire insurance. Early records also indicate that there was an earthquake coverage policy taken out by the Wakefield Trust Company, the first such policy written in New England.
The Joseph A. Curley Insurance Agency, Inc., was established nearly a century later in 1964 when Joe Curley bolted a desk in the back of a van and drove around Wakefield selling insurance to family, friends and acquaintances. In 2017, the two firms merged to combine expertise and to deepen service capabilities.
We are also a proud member of the prestigious Renaissance Alliance.
